Caroline Numina is from Stirling Station, near Tennant Creek Northern Territory.

She was taught by her aunties Kathleen and Gloria Petyarre both highly respected artists. She now lives in Darwin

Bush Medicine Dreaming depicts the leaves of a special plant that is used to aid in the healing process. The leaves are collected and then boiled to extract the resin from the leaves. After the resin is mixed with kangaroo fat collected from the kangaroo’s stomach. This creates a paste that can be stored for up to six months in the bush conditions.

This medicine is used to heal cuts, wounds, bites, rashes and as an insect repellent. By painting about ‘Bush Medicine Dreaming’ the artist is paying homage to the spirit of the medicine plant in the hope that it will regenerate, enabling the people to use its healing powers.

Numina family name hold custody of the story and knowledge keepers of stories such as Bush Medicine Leaves, Bush Tucker, Seeded, Soakage, Womens’ Ceremony, etc in common with other skin groups across the vast arid landscape and desert areas of central Australia.
