Warlukurlangu Jukurrpa
Warlukurlangu Jukurrpa, also known as Fire Country Dreaming, relates to Warlukurlangu country south-west of Yuendumu. Jampijinpa/Jangala men and Nampijinpa/Nangala women have custodial responsibility for this Country.
The story tells of an old man, lungkarda, a centralian blue-tongued lizard of the Jampijinpa skin group. He lived on a hill with his two Jangala sons. The old man would pretend to be blind and send the two boys hunting for meat. However, while they were away, he would hunt and eat whatever he caught before they returned.
This story forms the cultural subject behind the artwork. In this composition, repeated painted marks extend outwards from the centre and create a strong sense of movement across the canvas.
