Ada Nangala Dixon- Ngapa Jukurrpa (Water Dreaming)

The site depicted in this [ainting is Puyurru, west of Yuendumu. In the usually dry creek beds are ‘mulju’ (soakage’s), or naturally occurring wells. The owners of this site are Nangala women and Jangala men. Two Jangala men, rainmakers, sang in the rain, unleashing a giant storm. In contemporary Warlpiri paintings, traditional iconography is used to represent the ‘Jukurrpa’ Dreaming. Short dashes are often used to represent ‘mankurdu’ and longer flowing lines represents ‘ngawarra’ (flood waters). Small circles are used to represent ‘mulju’ soakage’s and river bed.
