This artwork depicts water soaks, which are positioned in various significant places of the Lena Pwerle’s homeland of Ahalpere, Utopia in Central Australia. Soakage’s were traditionally important sources of water for Australian Aboriginal people of the desert. They would scoop out the sand or mud using a coolamon or womera, often to a depth of several metres, until clean water was found. Having knowledge of the precise of each soakage is extremely valuable.
